AI goes federal

Anthropic commits $150M to the Genesis Mission and brings Claude to 15+ US federal agencies

Anthropic announced a $150 million commitment to the Genesis Mission to advance scientific research and technological discovery, alongside making Claude and technical support available to more than 15 federal agencies. The same wave of announcements included the Anthropic Cyber Mission: a free OSS Scanner that uses frontier Claude models to scan opted-in open-source projects for vulnerabilities and return proof-of-concept exploits with suggested fixes, plus a Critical Infrastructure Defense Program deploying on-site engineers to help secure power grids, water systems and related suppliers.

Free means $0 per token today, not unlimited or unconditional: both platforms rate-limit free use and require a free API key, some OpenRouter free endpoints may train on your prompts unless you opt out in account settings, and the roster changes daily. Verified against each provider's own pricing data at generation time — but pricing changes without notice, so confirm it's still free on the provider's own page before you rely on it.
